Security Mercenary
Lee Heath is a prolific Information Security Mercenary with almost 25 years of industry experience, Lee is an information technology and security subject-matter expert in cardholder data, network, and general information security.


Lee Has worked closely with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) and payment industry working groups, including the Financial Services-Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), to develop information assurance and data security standards by sitting on the PCI SSC board of Advisors as technical subject matter expert for Chase Commerce Solutions. Lee also served as an internal PCI subject matter expert for both JPMorgan Chase and Alliance Data Solutions. In these roles, Lee focused on vulnerability management and monitoring, compliance, and general application and network security. Lee has also worked at several startup organizations and large companies such as Yahoo! and Terremark, with responsibilities including security monitoring and vulnerability management. Lee began his career as an initial employee at one of the more successful Internet service providers, FlashNet Communication, that started in North Texas and expanded nationwide before being acquired by Southwestern Bell.

Lee has been a contributing author for Nmap Network Scanning, the official guide to the Nmap Security Scanner. He has served as a keynote speaker at the 2013 IANS Los Angles Information Security Forum, and spoke at BSidesDFW, Defcon, BlackHat, and ShmooCon security conferences. Lee has also been interviewed by Marcus Ranum for a Q&A article in Information Security Magazine.

Lee is a contributing inventor/author on two secure communications patents for robots and controllers. He has taught Unix and network security, programming and Unix system administration continuing education classes at The University Texas of Arlington and has held the Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) Information Security Professional (ISP) certification, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Payment Card Industry Professional (PCIP), Payment Card Industry Internal Security Assessor (PCI ISA), and RedHat Certified Engineer (RHCE).

Lee has contributed to the Information Security and Hacker scenes by starting the Dallas Fort Worth chapter of Defcon Groups, DC214 in 2003 and Hack Fort Worth in 2016. He has assisted in organizing and recording through photography BSides DFW almost every year of the last 10 years. Lee has also helped raise funds for BSidesDFW by creating t-shirts, coins, and stickers, as well as used his creative nature to assist many DFW and Austin based groups with logos, artwork, and whatever he has been able to assist with.
